BuzzAround
I’m very pleased to introduce a new fuzz to the Vintage Custom lineup, The NKT BuzzAround! Thick sustaining fuzz with cut and sizzle! Imagine the huge gain, sustain and flexibility of a BigMuff coupled with the frequency response, attack and texture of a Tonebender and what you end up with is something even bigger and better than the sum of its parts. The BuzzAround is already well known and loved by many, but I’ve wanted to offer a true to spec replica of one for some time now. Finally I’ve found the perfect enclosures to house this beast, and replica knobs to top it off! Specs and details below:
Fully spec’d out original style BuzzAround fuzz, Replica Gray and Black Hammered Enclosure with Silver Replica knobs.
Three NOS NKT OC77 or Tungsram AC125 Germanium transistors.
NOS Ge Bias Diode.
NOS Capacitors.
KOA Speer carbon film resistors.
Built on tagboard using the original layout.
Cliff UK jacks, shielded wire, true bypass switching.
Battery powered only.
One of the rarest and most interesting vintage fuzzes, the Burns-Baldwin BuzzAround was used to great effect on many old recordings. Aggressive bite and sustain with super flexible controls for Sustain, Balance and Timbre. Sustain works similarly to a BigMuff or MKIII/IV Bender, increasing or decreasing the signal between the clipping stages, a true gain control. Balance (middle) works as a bias control, but its original intent was to raise to lower the volume. The controls are very interactive with output volume, the balance control allows adjustment to “balance” the output, of which there is an intense amount! The Timbre works as a tone control, though somewhat primitive it works to make the output signal EQ thinner or thicker depending on setting, great for dialing in to your amp or guitar pickups the right frequency to push. All three controls are found on the original BuzzAround pedals and operate as they do on the originals. A killer old school bender style fuzz with a unique design, and one of my absolutely favorites.
